Element-to-element interactions & editable states (like Figma variants)#199

F

Hi Instant team,

I’d like to suggest two features that would significantly improve the flexibility and expressiveness of Instant’s visual builder:

  1. Element-to-element interactions:

It would be extremely helpful to have the ability to define interactions on any element (not just buttons), so that:

When a user clicks, hovers, or interacts with one element, It can modify the state, visibility, or style of another element.

This would allow us to build richer product flows, toggles, or custom UX patterns without writing code. Tools like Replo do this particularly well (See attached Image) — for example, letting you trigger state changes across components with simple interaction logic.

  1. Editable states for elements (like Figma variants):

I’d also love to see a way to define custom states on elements — such as default, hover, active, or custom-defined ones — and be able to edit each state individually.

This would make it possible to:

  • Adjust styles or content in each state (e.g., change text, icons, or layout).

  • Design responsive feedback without duplicating blocks.

  • Create reusable, interactive components in a cleaner way — similar to variants in Figma.

Let me know if any of this is already on your roadmap, or if there’s a workaround in the current version I might have missed.

Thanks for your time and great work!

Best,
Fermín
